New this year, you will have the option to use a credit card for apparel purchases. For those who ordered School Kidz, you can pick up your box of supplies directly in your child's classroom.

Students will meet their teacher, confirm bus routes, pick up SchoolKidz Supply kits (if they were ordered at registration) and make sure all paperwork is in order. Parents will have the opportunity to sign up for PTA, volunteer for school events and order school apparel.

Cody PTA Meetings:

The Cody PTA meetings are held once per month, usually on a Monday  at 6:30 P. M. in the Cody School Library. Click here for meeting dates, agendas and meeting minutes.

Free childcare is provided in the cafeteria and we strive to keep our meetings under one hour. Everyone is welcome.

You do not need to be a member of the Cody PTA to attend. Also, you can still be a member even if you can’t attend any or all meetings! Membership is $5 per person to join. We are a friendly, fun group and appreciate anyone willing to do what they can to help out such a great cause! There are many ways you can help. Inability to come to the PTA meetings is not a problem!

Watch your enews for invitations to upcoming meetings and ways that you can help our school.

Contact PTA President Sue Mayer if you need information or would like to have a topic placed on the agenda at: 332-5905 or , mayer0831@aol.com

Curriculum Night and ELP Meeting

Curriculum Night is held just after the beginning of school for parents to meet teachers and learn about the curriculum as well as classroom and school expectations. Each teacher will present information in two sessions. Both sessions will be the same, but this gives families with students in more than one classroom to attend more than one session.

This is not a teacher conference; if you need discuss questions or concerns specific to your student(s), please schedule a time to do so outside of this evening.

Students are welcome to attend if necessary, but please be mindful that the information shared will be focused towards parents.

ELP - This ELP, Extended Learning Program, Information Meeting will be from 6:00 - 6:30 in the library; hosted by our new ELP Teacher, Mrs. Carolyn Halverson. She will share information about the program and answer any questions you may have. This is an optional program. If you are unable to attend, you can contact Mrs. Halverson.

All School Roller Skating Parties

Roller Skating Parties are fun social gatherings several times a year at the Eldridge Skate Park located at 400 S. 16th Avenue in Eldridge,  Iowa - LINK TO GOOGLE MAPS. The rink is opened exclusively for Cody kids and their siblings/parents from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. This is NOT A DROP OFF event. All students must have one supervising adult with them at the event.

Bring your own clean skates/rollerblades or rent skates for $1.50. Admission is $3.00 per person for the first three parties. If average attendance is high enough at the first three parties, there will be no admission fee to the fourth party. We will let you know if that is the case via enews and the www.CodyPTA.com website.

Grandparent's Day

Scholastic Book Fair will be open from 8am - Noon DETAILS

Cody welcomes all of our grandparents (a special guest is welcome if grandparents are unavailable) from 9:00 AM until 11:30 AM. During this special morning, faculty and staff will welcome input from our guests about what school was like in the past. We feel connecting present-day education to education from the past can be a great learning experience for our students.

They will join the students in the classroom for join activities, go to a band concert, and have an opportunity to relax in our hospitality room for coffee and snacks any time they need a break.

*Note- Due to our growing number of students, and limited space in our cafeteria, our seating will not allow us to seat all of our special guests at lunch time. You will notice that our morning will conclude right before lunch at 11:30, a slight change from previous Grandparents’ Days.

Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to our special guests. If you are looking for a good place to have lunch - please consider downtown LeClaire, Iowa! Go to www.visitleclaire.com for details!

Fall Frolic Family Carnival

2012 Theme: School of Rock!

Our Fall Frolic Carnival is the biggest event and fundraiser of the year for Cody School.  Bring the whole family October 12th from 5:00-8:00pm.  Games and prizes are included with admission of $3.00 per student and $1.00 per adult with a maximum of $10.00 per family.

This is not a drop off event but you won’t want to miss the excitement on the students’ faces.

Games are free once you are inside. Climb the giant slide or challenge a friend in the obstacle course. Enjoy a trip on the hayrack ride. There are prizes for games like the booger game, fishing game, TP toss, cake walk and much more. Don’t skip the cake walk and take your stab at the golf ball guessing game. The Gift Shop is a great stop for exciting items for purchase. Food will be available in the cafeteria to satisfy every appetite.

Students have been working on their class projects which will all be available in the silent auction. If you can’t make it to the big night, you can place a bid via email on the Cody PTA website using a credit card. Details on that coming soon.

Back by popular demand are our Teacher Baskets. Our generous Cody teachers have graciously donated their time and talent to the students. Look for your special teacher and drop a ticket for a chance to spend a fun time with them. Have McDonald's or Happy Joe's lunch with Mr. Bradley, or watch a movie and have Root Beer Floats with Mrs. Albrecht! Every Cody student who attends Fall Frolic will get a free ticket for the teacher raffle. To increase your chances of winning, purchase more chances to win! $1 for 1 ticket, or $5 for 6 tickets. Put all your tickets in the same teacher basket or place the tickets in multiple teachers baskets.

The silent auction baskets are an exciting opportunity to purchase everything from Hopper Passes, vacations or charming baskets from local vendors. Cody is lucky to have a supportive community and generous friends who make this silent auction something you won’t want to miss.

Suit up in your favorite athletic gear and join us for the event of the year.

Scholastic Book Fair During Parent / Teacher Conferences

Contact: Christine Curlee (615)564-2211

Browse and Shop the Cody PTA Scholastic Book Fair ONLINE at:

http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/codyelemschool1

The Scholastic/PTA book fairs are held three times per year - during the week of conferences in the Fall., during the week of conferences in the Spring, and a “buy one get one free” fair during the Cody Walkathon in May.

The book fairs provide parents with the opportunity to purchase fairly priced books and other educational materials for their children and for the classrooms. The profits earned go to Scholastic, however, based on these profits, the PTA earns Scholastic dollars, cash or a combination of the two, to be used to purchase materials for the library and the classrooms. Teachers also complete a wish list of books that they would like, and parents are then able to purchase these books directly for the classroom.

The support of the book fair has resulted in thousands of dollars of books and materials being added to the school each year.

Donuts for Dad's

Arrive between 7:45 A.M. and 8:30 A.M. for donuts, coffee and juice. Sponsored by the PTA. Donations are accepted. Please RSVP when the permission slip comes home so we know how much to order!

2013 WALKATHON May 10th (Raindate May 13th)

Schedule/Volunteer Needs | T-shirt Sponsorship Information

Click here to view Photos from the 2011 Walkathon

Monday, May 10, 2013 (rain date: May 13) will be our 6th Annual Walkathon. The Walkathon will be held the during the school day and each child will have 30 minutes to walk (or jog or run) as many laps as they can along with their grades.

The theme this year is "Power in Numbers". We are trying to raise funds for additional playground equipment. With leftover funds, we will purchase other requested items such as tetherballs, sidewalk chalk, a megaphone for the playground as well as items for PE classes such as pedometer, shoe tokens, jump ropes, basketball nets and several group activities.

The packet that will come home two weeks before the event contains a donation form where the students can ask friends, family and/or neighbors for either flat donations (like $10) or pledges for each lap they complete (like $1 per lap). The average 3rd grader will complete 10 laps. All money and forms are due back to the school by May 29th. All donations are tax-deductible. Do not allow your children to go to stranger's home or door-to-door without your supervision!

Also, thanks to our generous sponsors, each child and staff member will be receiving t-shirts for the Walkathon in the colors of our pillars of character to promote school spirit! (Sponsors are listed on the back of the t-shirts). They will be given out next week and we would like everyone to wear their shirts on the day of the Walkathon (May 13th) because a photographer from the PV District will be coming to take an roof-top photo of the entire school. The photos will be available on our website to download and print. T-shirt Sponsorship Information

Also, the boy and girl from each grade that complete the most laps will have their names entered into a drawing to be chosen to be PRINCIPAL for 1/2 day!
